Countdown:
T-minus 170 Days to Julie’s due date…

Babies A & B, as we are affectionately calling them, are doing great! Julie is now 15 weeks and 5 days along and getting bigger daily. I caught her on her new glider in front of the fireplace the other day looking very much like a pregnant woman… laying back, belly pooching out, rocking back-and-forth! She’s in that in-between stage where her clothes don’t fit, but she still doesn’t fill out maternity clothes, so she’s trying to make do. Right now she’s wearing some of my old pajamas because they have a nice big stretchy elastic waist. So far she has gained six pounds and is right on track! She still burps like a crazy woman (in fact, if you have ever seen the movie Elf, try to remember the burp Will Farrell let rip after downing a 2 liter bottle of Coke… that’s what I hear regularly! Ok ok, not really that disgusting, but she is miserable with the indigestion, and I’m pretty amused with the burping… and very thankful its not coming out the other end! :-) Julie’s appetite is getting better, at least enough that she felt like baking cookies yesterday evening for our new neighbors down the street who were having a lot of “fun” moving into their new house with the temperature around 15 degrees and a snowstorm brewing. At one point we were projected to get up to 21 inches of snow in greater Kansas City, but by the time it was all said and done, we didn’t even get a flurry up here in Platte City just 20 miles or so from downtown. To the south and east there were large accumulations, up to 18 inches in some places! Interstate 70 was closed for a 65 mile stretch from Kansas City to the east, and there were more than 100 abandoned vehicles on the freeways in town! Not 15 miles south from our house they got 4-6 inches and we didn’t even see a flurry, nope, not a one. I think we are the only two people above the age of 13 praying for snow!Anyway, back to the important stuff, the babies… Yesterday, Julie had her first official OB doctor visit and ultrasound here in Missouri. Let me tell you, the babies put on a show for us! At least one did… Baby B was awake and active, jumping around and having a good ole time in there. Baby A was curled up in the fetal position (imagine that!) and probably annoyed with Baby B’s antics. Both babies measure up perfectly to 15 1/2 weeks, just where they should be, and both hearts are beating great, music to our ears! Since Baby A was snuggled up underneath B, and seemingly napping while B was hamming it up for the ultrasound, we don’t have any cute mug shots of A… yet. Another ultrasound in three weeks will give Baby A an opportunity in front of the camera. In fact, we should be able to tell if they are boys or girls then too! For now, here are the best of the photos from the ultrasound visit. In case you were wondering, the one picture of both A & B together is the tops of both their heads. Don’t forget you can click on the pictures for bigger versions.

Now for a couple of brief notes on other stuff… Our house is wonderful! We are enjoying it immensely. I personally am enjoying being a home owner with all that it entails. Of course it will be awhile before I get to mow the grass, but I did spend a few days staining/waterproofing the deck. Julie loves the kitchen and we had a good time cooking Thanksgiving dinner for just the two/four of us. (next year there really will be four of us!!) Even though we didn’t get any snow yesterday, we got quite a bit of freezing rain and ice a couple of days ago, enough to make the roads glare ice for a couple of days. Our Jeep was wonderful in 4wheel drive and I finally got the slick summer Hawaii tires on the car replaced today with a nice set of winter tires so Julie can drive to work safely and in something more comfortable than the bouncy ole Jeep. We still need to get some interior decorating done like window coverings and wall hangings, but the house is coming together really nicely. We couldn’t be happier with everything. Oh yeah, Julie starts seeing patients bright and early Monday morning and I’ll put some finishing touches on the house before seriously starting the job hunt. Vacation’s over!!!

And last but not least, here are a couple of pictures of our house inside… Click the picture for a small gallery. We promise more pictures soon, including belly shots!

Inside and more…

Love to all,

Roland & Julie

Countdown:
T-minus 3 days and counting till we fly…
221 Days to Julie’s due date…

Well, the soon to be Grammie and Grampa Schwarz arrived without any problems last week and we have been enjoying their company this past week. Its been a busy week for us… We moved into the Navy Lodge on Ford Island in Pearl Harbor; it’s great! Any of you military folks out there PCSing out of, or into, Hawaii take our advice and reserve a room at the Navy Lodge as soon as possible! You won’t regret it. Anyway, as I said, we have been visiting with my Mom and Dad this week. They are very excited (uncontainable actually!) to be grandparents and I think they are already plotting many many ways to spoil them silly. It’ll be great! Speaking of the little ones, here is the latest ultrasound picture of baby “A” and baby “B”… AKA the Gummy Bears (thanks for that Dr. Lucidi!). Don’t forget you can click on the picture here for a much bigger version. You can see their little arms and feet and even the umbilical cords. We were very excited to see them today and to see that they’re doing great! We’re so lucky to have such a great doctor like Dr. Lucidi at Tripler here in Hawaii. He was nice enough to do an ultrasound for reassurance just before we leave Hawaii and we will miss seeing him for the rest of Julie’s pregnancy.

We also got in one last trip to the North Shore, or should I say one last trip to Matsumotos Shave Ice and Kua’Aina Burgers! Oh yeah, one last stop at The Bakery too. See the picture of the shave ice crew in front of Matsumotos stuffing their faces… After 8 1/2 years in Hawaii for me and 7 years for Julie, we finally got our picture taken in front of the Haleiwa town sign too. Of all the things to do and places to see in Hawaii, I think my favorite is the North Shore. I really enjoyed many trips up there on my Bike as well as many beautiful sunsets with dinner at Cholos. Saturday morning roll-out-of-bed breakfast trips up to the Haleiwa Cafe in the Jeep with the top down will also be a wonderful memory. Snorkeling at Sharks Cove in the summer and 30+ foot waves at Waimea in the Winter. Golf at Turtle Bay. 4 wheeling at Mokuleia and watching the sky divers at Dillingham Field. And of course, all the good eats… I find it hard to believe many people who have lived here much longer rarely if ever even make the short trip up to the north shore to enjoy it. I wouldn’t have missed it.

October 10th was our first anniversary too. We actually have the top of our wedding cake to “eat” but since Julie wasn’t feeling too much like eating on our anniversary, we will have a smaaaaalllll taste of it tonight. I say “small taste” because I can think of at least a gazillion things I would rather eat than year-old frozen wedding cake, but hey, it’s the thought that counts, right? I’ll try to remember to post whether or not it kills us!

We also had a Schwarz family photo taken this week. Mom & Dad and Julie and I sat for a great family shot and we signed up for the Sears Smile Saver plan which will get us all the baby portraits we want for the next two years! I can already picture the funny and embarrassing outfits we can dress the kiddos in for some great shots… (Julie, I’m just kidding…)

Well, this will be the last post from Hawaii. My car is already in LA ready to be picked up by us on Monday morning for the 5 day sightseeing drive to Kansas City. We are excited to head out across the country to a new home. We’re sad to leave my Mom & Dad and our good friends here, but we very much look forward to seeing them again in other places around the country.

A hui hou kakou
(until we meet again)

Countdown: T-minus 17 days and counting…
0 days until the movers come…
7 days until the grandparents arrive…

What do Minnesota, Double-mint Gum, and Julie have in common?Twins baby, TWINS!!! Julie’s first ultrasound yesterday afternoon clearly shows we are soon to be a family of four!!! We saw two nice little growing babies and two tiny little beating hearts; it was truly beautiful. And I’m happy to report they are getting along and playing together well already at 6 weeks and 2 days. This picture is a scan of the printout we were given at the hospital. It didn’t scan very well, but you can definitely see the two young ones in there. Right next to each other, side by side.
Julie is doing well, but she’s not that interested in food (I think for the first time ever!) and she has “all day” sickness instead of just morning sickness. She’s tired all the time but she knows it’s really not as bad as it could be. She’s hanging in there and of course she’s as happy as can be… brrruurrrp… whoa, did I mention she has indigestion and gas!?

I think if you look really really closely at the picture you might be able to see “x2″ everywhere! I mean, that’s my new way of thinking anyway.

We need a stroller (times two)
We need a crib (times two)
What about a car seat (times two!)
Clothes? (times two!!)
Diapers? (times two!!!)
Dirty Diapers!!?? (TIMES TWO!!)
We should really start saving for college (TIMES TWO!!!)

And of course, all the smiles and joy a baby brings (times two) :-)

My cheeks hurt… there’s an awful lot of smiling going on around here…

Aloha…
